What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxDúnLaoghaire, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxDúnLaoghaire event, TED Talk videos and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

About TEDx Dún Laoghaire
Following on from the great success of last year, TEDxDúnLaoghaire will take place on October 25th 2019 in The Studio, at dlr LexIcon in Dún Laoghaire.
Our theme for 2019 is Change Beyond The Periphery. This theme is sufficiently abstract to allow for great speaker diversity and we know will be widely interpreted.
There will be a speaker call-out, so we suggest you sign up for updates. This year, we also have a Nominate a Speaker. This will ensure we make someone you feel has an idea worth spreading gets to hear about the call-out. There are exact criteria for speaker submissions and time period during which they may be submitted. Please note, unsolicited submissions will not be accepted. TEDx Dun Laoghaire is a self organised, not for profit event run by hard working volunteers, hence us putting in systems to help us plan and run things as efficiently as we can to keep the magic of our TEDx event here in Dun Laoghaire. Our selection panel has a tough job evaluating submissions, making sure not only do we put on a great event, but we also give each speaker, particularly our younger speakers a great TEDx journey as we support them with speaker coaching Each gives a ‘live’ talk on the night, knowing that their talk, once uploaded to TEDx, will have the potential to spread their unique perspective in their chosen area of interest and expertise to the wider TEDx global community. You’ll see from last year how some talks really do ‘spread!’
To let our talks inform, inspire and cultivate a more open minded community, a community which can grow and become ever more sustainable and inclusive; a community in which more people, not just in business, but in life itself, thrive.
